Blogs
and wikis may seem similar but they are likely to serve different purposes. For
bloggers, it is like a diary format where there is one author that writes a
blog and other people will contribute in the comment section. On the other
hand, wiki users are used for group communications and posts are flexible to
changes. Aside from their slight differences, blogs and wikis are very useful.
In the article “Brooklyn blog Helps Lead to Drug Raid” by Michael Wilson,
Katherine Khatari claims that “People don’t like to fight alone. There’s strength
in numbers, you know? There’s more of us than them.” This article was about
drug business that was happening near Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Many people were
afraid to say anything at first because you don’t know what would happen to
you, but through blogging, people slowly started to voice their opinions.
Because of blogging, the community was brought together. As mentioned earlier,
wiki users have many authors. In another article “An Internal Wiki That’s Not
Classified” by Noam Cohen, she says, “The advantages are obvious, in efficiency
and in saving paper, but it has required a leap of faith, too. For,
theoretically at least, anyone at the State Department could have edited the
biographies Mr.Spogli was reading-unlike traditional resources.” There are pros
and cons to wiki users. It is a good sense of group communication, but because
anyone can assess the same page you can, some works can be alternated. Aside
from using wiki from school and work, we can create a personal wiki page for
our personal use with our goals and motives that we would like to accomplish in
life.
